IT Emergency: Immediate First Steps
During an acute IT incident, every minute counts. The steps below help you avoid further damage until we get back to you.
What you can do until we call you back
-
Stay calm, do not shut systems down
If you suspect malware or encryption: disconnect the network connection (unplug the LAN cable or disable Wi-Fi), but leave the device itself powered on.
-
Isolate affected devices
Do not connect any further devices to the same network, to prevent the issue from spreading to other systems.
-
Don't delete or install anything
No independent repair attempts, no uninstalling software, and no response to ransom demands.
-
Document error messages
Photograph the screen with your smartphone where possible. This makes later diagnosis easier.
-
Inform your staff
Ask affected employees to stop using the affected systems until further notice.
-
Contact us
Call the emergency number and briefly describe the incident: what you noticed, since when, and which devices and programs are affected.
This overview does not replace individual consulting. It is meant to help you follow the most important steps in the acute situation, until we get in touch with you.
